“It was impossible to know on that wintry December day of admission to 3East that the program would save my daughter and transform our family. Learning dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has given us skills to be present to our girl, right where she is, and to validate her experience of the world– through her eyes, her heart, her mind and her body.

It turned out that the program wasn’t just about “her needing to change;” it was about all of us learning to do something new. At 14 years old, crawling out of bed, getting to school, and making it through the day without hours of weeping and suffering felt inconceivable to her. I often wondered if she’d ever be able to live independently, and her life itself hung continually in the balance.

Seven years later, she’s a university graduate, is building a future she’s excited about alongside her much loved service dog, pursuing a vocation in medicine, and is fully engaged in the work of becoming more wholehearted and healed.

Today our daughter is moving closer to full independence, in her own home– thankful for her present life, hopeful for her future, and with the skills to pursue her dreams. We are forever grateful for the gift DBT has been to us.” – Anonymous
