TESTIMONIALS

“At the age of 21, I was sentenced to 28 years to life. … The Oak Tree Family Fund is choosing to look in places that most of society is choosing not to look. They saw me. They saw a young person who came through hardship, made a lot of poor choices, but now is on the path of making all the right choices.

[T]hey don't only help people like me. They help people with food, housing, mental health services. This work is needed, especially now that a lot of programs are shutting down. I ask you to please allow someone just like me a second chance and please donate.”

— Hector “Bori” Rodriguez, Visual Artist

“Friends of the River Valley's vision is for every child, adult, and family in the River Valley to have access to a diverse range of opportunities, including meals and nutrition, books, and various school, community, and wellness programs. We achieve this by partnering with existing programs and organizations across Western Maine's Androscoggin River Valley.

Friends of the River Valley serves as a centralized resource for supporting and promoting a range of nutrition, education, health, social services, and economic development across the River Valley.

We are enormously grateful to Oak Tree Family Fund. Their generous funding makes the certainty of program delivery possible! Without the benevolence of donors like Oak Tree, children and families would not have access to these transformative programs.”

— Lisa Marr, Board Member, Friends of the River Valley

Oak Tree Family Fund is doing incredible work to support adolescents and families who are struggling with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and emotion dysregulation. Their support has made it possible for a number of families with financial need to access DBT services through our organization. We and the families we work with are so grateful for this support and for the work that Oak Tree is doing to make evidence-based treatment accessible for the clients who need it most. Abby and Tony have been wonderful partners and we thank them for their support.”

“In 2024, Anthony Millington and his wife, Abby Sykes, made an amazing $20,000 donation to us through their nonprofit: Oak Tree Family Fund. This is allowing us to help a paraplegic who needed extensive repairs to his home and another senior citizen whose roof is in need of repair and painting. Work begins next week!

Please remember that this money goes directly to people in need. We have never and will never take money out for managing the nonprofit we have. Again, 100% of all the income goes to people in need. Anthony and Abby and their nonprofit Oak Tree Family Fund have helped change these people’s lives forever as they could not possibly afford to have this work done without their gracious donation!”

— Craig R. Sargent, SFCF

“It was impossible to know on that wintry December day of admission to 3East that the program would save my daughter and transform our family. Learning dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has given us skills to be present to our girl, right where she is, and to validate her experience of the world– through her eyes, her heart, her mind and her body.

It turned out that the program wasn’t just about “her needing to change;” it was about all of us learning to do something new. At 14 years old, crawling out of bed, getting to school, and making it through the day without hours of weeping and suffering felt inconceivable to her. I often wondered if she’d ever be able to live independently, and her life itself hung continually in the balance.

Seven years later, she’s a university graduate, is building a future she’s excited about alongside her much loved service dog, pursuing a vocation in medicine, and is fully engaged in the work of becoming more wholehearted and healed.

Today our daughter is moving closer to full independence, in her own home– thankful for her present life, hopeful for her future, and with the skills to pursue her dreams. We are forever grateful for the gift DBT has been to us.”

“Transforming Lives works with incarcerated senior citizens in New York State. With the help of the Oak Tree Family Fund, TL has developed a mentoring program in writing and the arts to give our incarcerated partners hope and skills to utilize when they return home.

The recidivism rate in New York is about 70%, but for our incarcerated partners, it is about 2% - showing how much skills, hope, and encouragement can help.

For those people who have been given ridiculous sentences, we have created a Second Look Video program to have these sentences reduced or dismissed. Oak Tree Family Fund had generously helped with Second Look Videos as well, and we have had a close to 60% success rate in bringing people home.

We are deeply indebted to the Oak Tree Family Fund for their support and generosity.”
